A Tribute to the Music of Dragon Quest
I have decided to use this space to house the MIDIs I've composed in honor of the music Koichi Sugiyama wrote for the Dragon Quest series, known as Dragon Warrior in America. Note that these are NOT remakes of his work, but pieces I've composed that were INSPIRED by his work.
The format is this: The MIDI files will have the tune played through once. As with the work I've done for Caelius, the MIDIs are designed so that the ending matches the beginning, so that the piece can be looped over and over.
Here's what's up so far...
Anthem of a Hero
To do the impossible...create a stirring overture in the style of the Dragon Quest theme. Practically impossible, but I couldn't resist the challenge... ;)
MIDI
Merry Tavern
This brisk pizzcato string piece has the same format as Sugiyama's "Intermezzo:" the player has just started up the game, and is looking at the main menu of options.
MIDI
Market Day in the Town
The town music in Dragon Quest has entranced players from the start. This one has a bouncy and cheerful nature.
MIDI
A Modest Castle
Dragon Quest just wouldn't BE Dragon Quest without lovely castle themes! Here's my take on royalty... :)
MIDI
Dungeons Dark
A rather simple cave theme. I experimented with dissonance to create the eerie effect. For some odd reason it comes out SADDER sounding than it should be...
MIDI
Footsteps of the Enemy
Here we go..the first collaborative effort on Epic Tales! A composer like me by the name of Lindy Blackburn wrote this originally as a battle piece. He gave me permission to tweak it a little bit. Another fellow by the name of Rampage suggested that we speed it up a bit, and SHABOOM...a realy kickin' track!
This MAY be the start of something bigger, folks...we'll just have to see...
MIDI
A Tragic Ending
Dying's a fact of life, even in Dragon Quest. This mournful piece tries to cover the helpless feeling.
MIDI
Holiness
This is an organ piece that will fit for church scenes or other places with a mystical aura.
MIDI
Prairie Gallop
DQ6's "Flying Bed" was the inspiration for this piece. In the DQ world, there are many ways of getting around quickly, even a humble horse. :)
MIDI
The Quiet Sea
The ocean themes in Dragon Quest are, IMHO, some of the loveliest pieces. I'm especially fond of the ones in DQ5 and DQ6. Here's my take, and I'm really happy with the results.
MIDI
In the Company of Clouds
Whether by balloon, dragon, carpet, or whatever else, flying has been prominent in the Dragon Quest world since the third installment. And a beutiful theme is called for.
MIDI
Mysterious Towers
Ah yes...Dragon Quest games are known for their towers. This here is a short, playful classical sketch.
MIDI
For the moment, that's all I have. Note that I may have rotate MP3s around as time goes on, due to limited space. we'll just have to see.
As with all my work, everything here is (c) 1998 by Seth Brown. Of course, the names Dragon Warrior and Dragon Quest are trademarks of Enix, and they haven't officially supported or endorsed me. Etc etc etc...
